The Kings Gambit is a chess opening for White. It starts as follows:
1.e4 e5 2.f4
If Black captures the f-pawn then this opening is called Kings Gambit Accepted. If the pawn offer is refused then this is called the Kings Gambit Declined.
Kings Gambit Accepted
Black accepted the pawn offer on f4 and captured the f-pawn. Now there are various systems possible.
The Kings Knight Gambit
Most common is to develop the knight to f3 to stop 3...Qh4+. Possible is also 3.Bc4.
1.e4 e5 2.f4 exf 3.Nf3
Bobby Fischer Defense
This "waiting move" move stops Ne5. Blacks gets a small advantage after 4.d4 g5 5.h4 (or 5.h3 h6) g4 6.Ng1 Nf6 (or 6...f5 or 6...f3)
After 3...Qh4+ Kf1 followed by Nf3 White is gaining development time.
Kings Gambit Declined
Black declines the offered f-pawn and plays his own set up.
|1.e4 e5 2.f4 d5 |
hitting the center and trying to exploit White's kingside weakness.
|1.e4 e5 2.f4 Bc5|
A solid move that stops White from castling. If 3.fxe5?? Qh4+ 4.g3 Qxe+ and rook is lost.
