Kings Gambit

The Kings Gambit is a chess opening for White. It starts as follows:

1.e4 e5 2.f4

Black moves

If Black captures the f-pawn then this opening is called Kings Gambit Accepted. If the pawn offer is refused then this is called the Kings Gambit Declined.

Kings Gambit Accepted

Black accepted the pawn offer on f4 and captured the f-pawn. Now there are various systems possible.

White moves

The Kings Knight Gambit

Most common is to develop the knight to f3 to stop 3…Qh4+. Possible is also 3.Bc4.

1.e4 e5 2.f4 exf 3.Nf3

3.Nf3 g5

Bobby Fischer Defense

This “waiting move” move stops Ne5. Blacks gets a small advantage after 4.d4 g5 5.h4 (or 5.h3 h6) g4 6.Ng1 Nf6 (or 6…f5 or 6…f3)

Bishops Gambit

After 3…Qh4+ Kf1 followed by Nf3 White is gaining development time.

Kings Gambit Declined

Black declines the offered f-pawn and plays his own set up.

Falkbeer Countergambit

hitting the center and trying to exploit White’s kingside weakness.
1.e4 e5 2.f4 Bc5
Classical Defence

A solid move that stops White from castling. If 3.fxe5?? Qh4+ 4.g3 Qxe+ and rook is lost.
